The ORIGINAL, LARGEST and MOST ACTIVE outdoors group in the Carolinas! Often imitated but never duplicated!
Triangle Hiking and Outdoors Group (aka THOG) is the premier outdoor adventure group in central North Carolina. With over 3000+ members and 300+ events a year, we offer a comprehensive array of exciting adventures in the Carolinas and beyond! We are the ORIGINAL Meetup hiking group and #1 in the Carolinas. Membership is FREE and open to any adults over the age of 21 years old. Our members range in age from 21 to 70+ years old, although the majority of our members are in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Why join THOG?
We know there are several outdoor groups in the Triangle area to choose from. When you join THOG you are joining the BEST group in the Carolinas. Our volunteer board consists of some of the most experienced and knowledgable individuals in the Triangle area.
1) Experience counts! We were the first Meetup-based hiking group in the Carolinas and have hosted over 1200+ events since our inception. We are now in our 5th year of operation and continue to lead the way by providing unique and innovative events for our members!2) Member exclusives! Throughout the calendar year, we offer events that are only available to THOG members. Events include workshops and hikes on private property where we have secured permission in advance! 3) Most importantly, we have great members who are fun and adventurous but also safety conscious and responsible.
We are an INDEPENDENT group and are not associated or affiliated with any other hiking or outdoor groups. In other words, there are other groups that claim to be like THOG, but they are not! On rare occasions, we will co-host events with other groups, but these will be clearly identified on the THOG site.
What THOG is not ...
- THOG is not a singles group and those looking to join THOG for the sole purpose of finding dates will be disappointed. (* On a serious note, if you are on the receiving end of unwanted advances, harassing e-mails or stalking behaviors, please let us know by contacting a Volunteer or Organizer) - THOG does not condone or engage in careless, reckless or irresponsible activities or behaviors.
We expect that members will do their socializing on the trail, at camp, or on the water! Thus, you won't find social mixers, dining events or parties on our site. What you will find are some of the most unique outdoor adventures in the Triangle area. Whether its hiking, bicycling, zip-lining, backpacking, rafting, kayaking, snow skiing, snowshoeing, or camping, we've likely done it!
We are a VOLUNTEER based group and do not collect ANY fees or dues. Volunteers and Organizers are selected based on their experience and committment to the group. We require perspective Volunteers and Organizers attend a minimum of 3 events prior to consideration for such positions.
What are you waiting for? Join THOG Today!

Calling all Conservatives in the Triangle! If you believe in the following principles taken from the
http://www.glennbeck.com website - then you should join this meetup.com group.
The Nine Principles
1. America is good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
If you agree with at least seven of those principles, then you are not alone. Thank you for joining Triangle Conservatives Unite!

This group is THE place for anyone who has an interest in wine. It is for those that already enjoy wine as well as those who are just interested in starting to learn about and try wine. This is not a group for pretentious wine drinkers. Think of it as a wine group with a beer attitude! Wine should not =pretentious. It should build community & strive to include rather than exclude. Lower your nose:) We will enjoy wine, hopefully learn some things, and have a good time. At times we dive into craft beer and spirits as well.

This meetup IS NOT about super secret tricks to fake out the search engines or fancy handshakes that only we know about or how to make quick money online via Google.
We're never going to charge you to come to our monthly meetup.
Raleigh's SEO meetup IS about getting realistic and informational advice on what works with the search engines. Show up once a month to find better ways to tune your site, get more distance from your marketing efforts, write good web content. Take the mystery out of what Google has to say about what works, learn about social networking and how it can benefit your site.
We want to help you build really great websites that rank at the top of the search results. We also want to sit down as neighbors and share some success stories, some advice on what didn't work and do some good old fashioned networking!
At this meetup you'll get info that can help almost everyone. Total beginners feel overwhelmed the first time, but keep coming back, it will make sense. Those with some experience under their belt can count
on a couple nuggets being unearthed that they may have missed. We always provide good takeaway resources so you can go home and use the information on your own website(s).
If you want to really join the family, hang out with us for the after-party where long term relationships and job offers have been plentiful lately.
Rank on!

The end of a marriage is hard. You may have realized that your current life is not what you want. Your spouse may have just "dropped the bomb" that they don't want to be married any more. Or you may have just reached the limit of how much of a bad relationship you can endure. Everyone here has a different story, but all are linked by the common need to figure out how to get through the process. Your life will be very different and the emotions can be overwhelming. Family, friends, neighbors and coworkers may not be able to relate, even if they want to be supportive. And navigating the legal process may be one of the most expensive learning experiences you have in your life – where do you even start that process?
DSSG was created to connect those who are going through the struggles of coping with separation and divorce. But this is not group therapy, it's a social mechanism to find others that are going through the same thing you are. We are a welcoming, warm and a fun group of people; an instant cadre of friends who know what it's like to have your life turned upside down! Read our "Learn More About..." page for more details!

Many people have smart phones these days, or some kind of immediate access to email so when you find yourself bored and looking for something to do, just set up an event to meet up somewhere! For example, I'm sitting home and decide I want to go eat Sushi. Make an event called "I'm Bored, meet for Sushi at......" Maybe you'll have some new friends show up! I am sure we all have found ourselves sitting at home, realizing our plans just fell through, or for some reason we have some spare time and you may be restless, anxious and tired of the confines of your home. It may be last minute, but I guarantee you will not be alone!!
Anyone can be an Event Organizer for this to work. Some basic guidelines to help steer this ship in the right direction is be Spontaneous and in the NOW as much as possible. If you have paid to be an event organizer than no fee is due
Also, be open to new events, new friends and new ideas for this to work. If your sitting home alone and see a post from an event organizer for something to do then take a chance and try it! You never really know who you may meet and how much fun you may have!!
Please do not cross post events from other sites unless they are within the guidelines of the group time frame. This is designed more for immediate fun and having some thing new to do with new friends!
There is now a yearly membership dues for $2.00 per person if you don't want to be an event organizer to help the organizer with the $144.00 a year meetup server fee at "I'm bored and I wana play" paid by paypal towards the a small business of this group Auto Fashions who is paying the meetup server.
If you do pay the membership dues you will have a $5.00 discount off any mechanical repairs or engine oil/filter changes done to your vehicle. All repairs can be seen at AutoFashions.com progress reports on line. We have an A+ rating with the BBB.org
If you like to become an event organizer. Make checks out to Auto Fashions for $36.00 year or $9.00 for three months and mail payment to:
Auto Fashions
110 Dreamscapes,
Pittsboro, NC,27312
When payment is received it will be noted under your name. If sending a check please tell sponsor what your profile photo looks like in case there are two of you sharing the same profile name. I am sorry that this group is no longer free. The dues and fees help the organizer pay for the meetup server and supplies .
Some of the previous organizers travel events will be charges and you can pay online with Sherri, mail her a check just or she will direct you to another site. There will be refunds given only if her trips are cancelled. If you must cancel please try to "sell" your space to another person on her events. Thanks for understanding this cancellation policy in advance!
Please enjoy this meetup and let Daniel know if you have ideas or thoughts on how to make this place even better!! Best of all, if you don't like the meet ups on other sites, then plan one of your own!! Thanks....
Sherri (Previous Organizer)

Please be sure to read the "ABOUT" page to see how to post a meetup and for general guidelines for event organizers!!
The Raleigh Trail Runners run/jog/socialize/slack anywhere in the Raleigh area. If you need a friendly supportive (non-competitive) running group, look no further! Check out the message boards and come join us in a run anytime. Also see our "about page" for more info.
Don't see what you like? Make a suggestion of your favorite place(s) especially trails that are not too rough and can accommodate at least 2 miles (one way) in length. Bonus for runs that offer views of water, rocks, critters and shrubbery . We will *try* to accommodate everyone at some point by having a run near you. New runners/joggers are welcome anytime but please note that we are not following the Galloway (run/walk) plan so if you are then you may not have a lot of company. The good news however is that our runs are generally an out & back or small loop (2 miles) course so you can just go with your comfort level and plan it so you can finish at the same time as the rest of the group.
We have the following regularly scheduled runs:
Sunday - The run that started it all! Our group long run day that takes place (with few exceptions) at William B. Umstead state park. The starting location is Old Reedy Creek off of Weston Parkway by the fence separating the road from the Blackcreek Greenway and Crabtree Lake. An out and back (or loop for longer runs) offering distances of 2-24 miles. This has traditionally been our best attended event and the fun continues at Carolina Cafe after the run for some post-run socializing.
Tuesday - Our early morning trail run. 3-6 miles in length, you choose the distance. Starting point is Harrison Ave. entrance.
Wednesday - Shelley Lake evening run (with headlamp depending on sunset) 2-6 miles on either a lake loop or out and back along the greenway. There is often a post-run social dinner after as well.
Saturday - The weekend single track run on Company Mill Trail (single track).
In the spring-fall we also generally have a long, hilly run on Fridays from the Harrison Ave. entrance that includes a loop on Turkey Creek. Another Friday option is the downtown Raleigh Friday Slacker Run where we run 3-6 miles and then spend the rest of the afternoon slacking and generally just avoiding any resemblance of work for the rest of the day. :)
Some of our normal runs allow for shorter run options for those who aren't up for the full run so please check the calendar frequently.
While we do our best as organizers to ensure that everyone has someone to run with that may not always happen. Please be aware that all runs are at your own risk.
RTR is free!! There are no solicitations for commercial products and/or services from members or organizers. The meetup.com site fees are paid upfront by me and many gracious members have helped offset costs by each donating one months fee of $12. Thank you all for your support and generous donations that cover our site hosting fees.
One last thing...we do an annual membership purge at the end of January. If you haven't visted the site at least once in a year, your membership will be terminated unless we hear from you why you still want it. It just helps keep things clean. So just make sure to visit (hopefully a LOT more than once a year) on occasion and you're fine. With all the great people and events going on, how can you not want to come out? :)
I'll see you all on the trail!
John
This group was created for anyone with the desire to meet other local people who practice meditation. We host meetups for practicing a variety of group meditation forms, and meetups for discussing mediation techniques and resources. The focus of the group is to cross the boundaries of religious and philosophical backgrounds, to learn and practice mediation without ego or agenda, and to enjoy the peaceful relaxing feeling meditation brings, knowing it to be a powerful path for opening ourselves to all that life has to offer.
We also offer an interesting variety of self-discovery workshops & gatherings to compliment your spiritual practice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ALSO, please note that if you click the *Files* tab to the left, we have a list of various local meditation links, sitting groups, and centers.
We are very open to posting your meditation group or special event on our calendar as a *Note*, as to make this as comprehensive a local meditation calendar as possible. If you desire your event posted, please click "email me" under the "Organized by" heading to your left, and we can have a conversation about your event.
Join up with a diverse community of Obama supporters as we continue the work we began five years ago! Change has happened and can continue, but only if we work together. This election is about you and your community. Please join us to meet other Obama supporters and make a difference in our community.
If you're a graduate student or a young professional or just someone looking to meet new people and make new friends, this group is for you! It's hard to make new friends when you only see the same set of people every day. This group is to organize social events like trivia and game night and maybe even a book club. So join the group, we'll do a little bit of everything!
We are a group of women who enjoy and embrace our natural roots. We come together to celebrate the uniqueness and beauty of our natural hair. This meetup is for African American women with natural hair, those who are thinking about becoming natural beauties, and others who are transitioning. Here, you will find a support group, as well as useful information. On our message board, you can find topics about products, hairstyles, natural salons, and informative websites. Gather and commune with us as we discuss hair care, maintenance, and the politics of having natural hair...Not only do we discuss natural hair, but we have a good time...Join us, as we continue our natural journey!
A photo of yourself is required to join this group. Having a photo on your profile helps me to recognize members at various events. This group is private, so the only people who will see your photo are other members. If you decide to leave the group, please provide a reason as it could help make the group better.
We are people who love
"Dancing 2B Awesomely Fit" and our dance of choice is Soul Line Dancing!
SOUL LINE DANCING is group dancing and we do it for fitness and for fun! Classes are offered weekly for beginner through advanced line dancers and everyone is welcome at our classes. And every month we host NC's Largest Line Dance Party, which attracts line dancers from throughout North Carolina (as well as the rest of the Southeast corridor).
Membership is required to attend classes offered by our meetup group. Prospective members are encouraged to take at least one to two classes prior to submitting a request for membership, to see if line dancing with us really works for them. To take a class (before becoming a member) please locate the class you are interested in on our meetup page and email the organizer, Leigh, at dance2bawesomelyfit@yahoo.com to RSVP. You will pay the member price of $5 for up to two classes you elect to attend as a prelude to membership.
Should you decide to become a member, you have the option of paying $35 (within the first five days of joining our group) which will entitle you to one month of unlimited line dancing and zumba classes (a $60 value assuming you take a minimum of three classes per week). This offer is applicable in your first month of membership only. After your first month, you may attend any class that we offer for the member price of $5 per class.
Whether you love line dancing or you are simply passionate about a fitness alternative where you can truly "eliminate the workout, join the dance party "dance2bawesomely fit" and get the results you're looking for, then
Line Dance Fever & Fitness with Leigh is the meetup group for you!
Carolina Young Adults was established in the Spring of 2010. This is a great group for young individuals to network and meet new people in the Raleigh area. This group is directed at young professionals from 21-35. CYA is my third group. It's two sister groups are CYA Charlotte and CYA Charleston. CYA is growing to become one of the hottest Meetup groups in the Triangle City.
We also have our very own face book group. You can check that out at:
Hi, you've found us!
We're a group of adults with ADD or ADHD (diagnosed or not) who stay in touch via our message board and twice-monthly meetings. We offer support, ADD info and fellowship (and we are NEVER dull or boring)! And now we have a quarterly meeting for spouses and partners of adults with ADHD!
Join us!
Note to prospective new members: since this group focuses (or tries to focus!) on a condition that is often misunderstood or even dismissed as "an excuse," we have made this group "private." That is to protect your privacy - from employers, family, friends and anyone else who may have an "opinion" about ADHD.
This is NOT designed to discourage you from joining - trust me, if you want to join an ADHD group, you're automatically IN! Who else could actually ENJOY interruptions, flights of fancy, arriving late, forgetting to RSVP, etc.???
Just submit your name and I will approve your membership (assuming you aren't selling spamm-y things that guarantee bigger body parts or have an inheritance you want to share for a small fee).
When you join (absolutely FR^EE by the way) you'll have access to our messages, photos and files.
We now have two meetings - the second Tuesday AND the last Thursday of each month from 7-9 pm. BE THERE!
Weekly Dance Parties, Beach Trips, Card Nights, Dining-Out Evenings, and Special Holiday Parties…The Triangle Singles Club has it all! For over 36 years the Triangle Singles Club has been providing fun social activities for singles over 40 in the area. Currently the club has about 180 members. This Meetup group exists to help connect even more singles through the club.
Some of the exciting events planned for 2011, in addition to the weekly Dance Parties, monthly Card Nights and Dining-Out Evenings, include a Valentine's Dance, Spring and Fall Myrtle Beach Trips, a 4th of July Cookout, an Anniversary Ball, a Christmas Dance, and a New Year's Eve Semi-formal Ball, plus more.
We welcome newcomers to all of our activities, so come join in the fun and make new friends! Other Meetup groups are welcome to come to the Triangle Single Club events, too. Please note that joining this Meetup group is free but to qualify for the "Member's discount admission" at events vs. the "Guest admission fee," you have to purchase an optional $25 annual membership from the Triangle Singles Club at one of the dances.
Do you want to further your education and knowledge about investing? Everyone is welcome, at all levels of experience. Our meetups are Free as is membership.
We are a friendly group who likes to travel and have FUN together aboard the StarShip, a luxurious Motor Coach guided by Captain Curt. We host many events for singles, couples and family travel as well. Although it's fun to travel, it's a lot more fun to travel with a group aboard the StarShip plus when traveling on the Starship it is cheaper and easier for you too!
We search for great travel deals near and far that we believe you will enjoy! We also plan one and two day trips...maybe even longer. Come to our meetups and bring your ideas and suggestions....we would love to hear from you soon!
Our goal is to provide regular group outings for all skill levels. We encourage our members to share ideas and knowledge within the group. Please use our discussion boards to introduce yourself and tell us what you enjoy most about photography.
Most of all........have fun
Welcome to the Raleigh Recreational Hikers (RRH)!!
We're one of the Triangle's premiere hiking group and we have done thousands of hikes around the RDU area plus numerous NC State Park hikes and even a few social gatherings. RRH is a wonderful group of people and we would be delighted to have you join us.
We would be delighted to have you join us for some vigorous exercise in the company of wonderful, like-minded people in the great outdoors. We are a group of enthusiastic amateurs who love spending time on the trail. We get together primarily to hike but we also have some wonderful social events and other types of outdoor outings. New members, who choose to participate, quickly become friends. Remember you'll get back from this group as much as your willing to put into it.
We hike primarily in the state and local parks of the Triangle and I guess Umstead State Park is our headquarters. However, we have been all over the state of North Carolina since it has many wonderful places to hike as you can see from our photo albums.
We offer activities such as hiking, backpacking, and camping. Even some of our most vigorous hikes are followed with lunch or dinner with many laughs and stories. We're always on the lookout for fun social events. If I do say so myself, we're a pretty awesome group! While we do offer social events, we are not a singles meetup organization. If you are joining us only to improve your dating life, I will quickly redirect you to the hundreds of single websites. Our focus is enjoying the great outdoors with like-minded people who want to experience all the awesome places North Carolina has to offer.
We try to offer a wide range of activities but we cannot and do not offer activities that are appropriate for all fitness levels. If you're not in great shape, (yet!) stick with our limited walks and strolls (1-2 mph). Most of our hikes are moderate but we usually move along at a pretty good pace (about 2-3 mph) over uneven terrain. We also offer fast-paced advanced level hikes (4+ mph) which are for experienced hikers in excellent health. Hiking REQUIRES that you honestly evaluate your own fitness level and choose appropriate activities.
Think of the members of RRH as a group of friends getting together to enjoy the great outdoors. If you join with us, it is our sincere hope that we will become nothing less!!
Regards,
Tim Armstrong
A couple of our rules: Please read the "Pages" section and answer the profile questions before asking to join or participating in any RRH events. This will help everyone get to know you better. I will NOT approve any membership request if you have not answered ALL the RRH profile questions plus provided a clear current picture of yourself (not just a random photo). This is for your safety as well as the other members of RRH. Hiking and outdoor activities can be dangerous and we want everyone to understand the rules.
Come and meet other local singles in our age group that are interested in leading a physically and emotionally healthy life. Let's face it, we are all only human which means there's always room for improvement and as a group we can help each other stay motivated to keep making healthy choices. We will meet for weekly hikes, runs, bikes and walks, (mostly for the exercise and sometimes to look at the natural surroundings) or other group exercise events. We can meet socially to discuss how to improve our workouts, diet and health. We might even find the best smoothie (or pint) in town! Come join us, I look forward to meeting you!
Based at scenic Cary Tennis Park, the Southern USTA's 2008 Facility of The Year.
Great variety of quality events, support and comprehensive calendar of weekly programs, all on reserved courts. Daytime and nightime events, averaging 42 events a month. All our events are a pleasant 50/50 blend of social/competitve. We compliment good play. We all like to win, but not at the expense of hooking lines calls and gamesmanship.
We provide women's doubles, men's doubles, mixed doubles and singles play events. Some select events are specifically advertised and promoted as play-up/play down events. Our staff of volunteer assistant organizers (AOs) have a combined 29 years of experience organizing events for TTE, as of January 2012. AOs manage each of their events and provide the best possible skills-based pairings/matches and a new can of balls for each court at each event.
Our member players are from 1.5 (beginner+) to 5.0 (advanced). The majority are 2.5 - 4.0. Some members are new to the game and looking to play organized tennis after completing clinics and lessons, while other members are looking for the next step to prepare for league play. Some members simply do not want to play league, while others played league and never want to play league again. Some members play league and TTE because they enjoy the social aspect and networking capabilities TTE provides.
Do you want to meet other people interested in investigating paranormal phenomena, share your insights and make new friends? If any of the above describes you, then you've found the perfect group! Beginners or experienced investigators or just curious individuals will find a friendly home here. Through our sponsor, the National Society of Paranormal Investigation and Research Inc, (NSPIR) we'll show you how we investigate paranormal activity using scientific principles, as well as invite guest speakers who are well versed in the field and other related topics. We'll discuss various techniques and how they are used and practice using these tools in the field at locations such as the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington, NC and the Ferry Plantation House in Virginia Beach, VA, with many more local and out-of-state well known paranormally active and historic location investigations in planning!
Come join us at various restaurants in the Triangle area (check the event for the location) for our dinner meeting on the second Thursday of each month and hear what we're about. We're not the typical meetup group and we don't think you'll be disappointed!!! Dinner at 6:30 - meeting at 7:00 (note - always check the meeting location as we sometimes meet at other special locations, such as the Rhine Research Center in Durham, NC).
The Triangle Area Gardeners and Homesteaders was formed to foster community as we learn about and promote healthy, sustainable, self-sufficient lifestyles as well as environmental stewardship.
It does not matter if you have an apartment in downtown Raleigh or live on a farm in Chatham County, Triangle Area Gardeners and Homesteaders (TAGaH) Meetup Group has something that will help you to have a greater understanding and appreciation for the world around us.
In TAGaH, members can share their experience in gardening, canning, bee keeping, raising live stock, beer and wine making, learning about wild edibles, through field trips and hands on demonstrations. The TAGaH was also established as a way for members to trade and barter for the products they make. Fresh eggs, honey, all kinds of fruits and vegetables, home made soap are examples that members can bring to each meetup for trade.
Please look at the categories on our message board regularly; we hope you'll come to the group for advice, and we hope even more that you'll offer advice to those who are looking for assistance! We look forward to providing an interactive learning community for you online as well as in person.
With over 500 members, we are growing fast! Please join us. All are welcome!
So what is this group all about?
This group welcomes all runners of different paces, but what sets the Turtles aside from other running groups is that the majority does not run faster than 9 minute miles, and many run 10-12 minute miles and slower.
So if you've ever felt a little intimidated by those other running groups that list the "slow" group at 8 minute miles then this is the group for you!
The Turtles encompass a wide range of running styles which include; straight running, run-walk interval training and those who are currently walking but want to transition over to running.
This group is flexible -- if you want to walk or run whether it's slow or fast, short or long, you can!
We expect the members to be active, that is show up at our scheduled runs. Minimally you should visit the website each month so we know your still into being a Turtle runner.
Also you must post a recognizable picture of yourself when joining our group.
Oh - and I almost forgot the best part -- this group is FREE!! We are looking for sponsors, so if you know of a business that pertains to running/walking/jogging or that would like to sponsor our group - send them our way. A small donation will get their logo on our meetup page for a year!
We schedule two types of meetups:
Runs that are organized just by Turtles. The organizer will be present and greet the members; if you are new the organizer will explain the running route.
Currently the weekly scheduled meetups for these are:
Briar Creek Night Run
Swift Creek to Regency Park
Weekly runs that are organized by businesses, other clubs and such. Signup so other Turtles know you're coming, then show up and enjoy yourself. These weekly runs include:
Tir Na nog Pub Run
Fullsteam Ahead! Run Club
Fleet Feet Thursday Night Social Run
Meet other local Gay guys for socializing, friendship and support. We find cool new places where we can have dinner and drinks. Sometimes its coffee and pie and sometimes its food, drinks and conversation. We always try new restaurants and we never cop an attitude! We support the new LGBT Center of Raleigh so ask us about the events there! This is a decent group of gay guys who just wanna have have fun! Come on OUT guys!
This group is for young professionals, recent graduates, or people still in graduate school looking to network, make new friends, or just hang out with new people.
We're a kayaking group who has only two hard and fast rules..... you need to be safe, and you absolutely HAVE to have FUN! We're principally flatwater (lakes, streams, rivers, etc) paddlers, but this group is really about whatever floats your boat....really!
Whitewater? Sure thing... Canoes? Can do... Rubber dhingys? Uhhh.OK! Sculling.... BYOC .... A 2 X 4 from Home Depot? Just float it safely !
This group is about RECREATION, and ranges from the basic beginner to the most advanced skill levels. If you want a bunch of rules, and committees, and people telling you what to do and offering to sell you secret handshakes, you made a wrong turn. Certainly we'll be making learning and developing your skills part of the offerings here, but these offerings will be from the standpoint that it makes you a safer kayaker on the water, not that you're here to get a bunch of medals, and it's not just a place where you're going to spend as much time as a Delta pilot practicing emergency landings. If your expectation for being here is the next ACA or BCU level accolade, that may happen, and we certainly wish you the best on that quest, but we're here to have fun, and be safe. Please don't try to turn everyone into your personal kayaking trainer.
I'll simply promise two things.
THING ONE: This group will ALWAYS practice safety first. We are not going to compromise on that. Part of the safety requirement is following the laws of the state(s) we boat in.
THING TWO: I'll also promise that if this starts to look, smell or act like work, or a government run beauocracy, you can push me over Victoria Falls in an inner tube.... We are NOT the DMV, and I presume you already have (or have access to) a mommy! That is not my function!
This is also a FREE group to members. Only in those situations where we are going to locations where there is a charge for a facility will there be any fee to member (ie the National Whitewater Resource Center in Charlotte has an entry fee). Membership in this group is also on an individual basis, as many of our events require a headcount limit, such that signing up as couples could cause us to overbook some of our events. If you have a Meetup membership as a couple, I will be requesting that you establish individual memberships, and apply individually as a condition of joining Simply Kayaking!
We are also not going to offer "JUMP BALL" events. Huh...what's that you ask? When an event is scheduled on the calendar, I'm going to give you a logistically do-able event out of the box. That is to say you will already have a where, a when, and a how. You are coming with the why, presumably to have fun. I will not pack your lunch for you, and I will not be holding your hand.
It is my concerted opinion that this is an adult activitity. Anyone who intrudes on anothers ability to have fun in a safe manner will be asked to leave, either the event, the group, or both. You will not be solicited for your political opinions, you will not be hit up for memberships, and you will not be assigned to committees, work details, or bucket brigades.
The Organizer and Assistant Organizers can, and will, introduce events for signup on the calendar. If members have events they want posted, just ask one to post it. ALL posted events will require who is responsible for posting and hosting, where it will be, when it will happen, and will need to make sure any logistical details are complete. As a member signing up for our events, I would ask that you respect the organizers' preplanning efforts by reading and agreeing to the events as posted and planned by the organizer; trying to personally customize events by making separate arrangements or agreements without the agreement of those organizing the event quickly degenerates into confusion (I mean, you wouldn't want to board an airliner where everybody had a different destination in mind, would you?). If you have suggestions or recommendations, by all means please email the organizer, and/or request your suggested changes through the organizer of the event, who may at their own disgression make such alterations to their planning. ANY MEMBER can use the message board to meet up with others. The message board is not for posting non kayak related opinions, advertisements, etc.
I am going to attempt to provide a well rounded group, and Assistant Organizers that have a wide set of kayaking interests to extend the opportunities available to any and all interested kayakers.
Enjoy, and BE SAFE!
The Raleigh Durham Backyard Poultry Meetup Group is for people who have small backyard flocks of chickens for pets, eggs, and meat.
You just might be suprised at how many people living in your neighborhood have pet chickens!
There is nothing quite like walking outside in the morning to gather fresh organic eggs for your breakfast!
We welcome everyone that has a small backyard flock of chickens, and those that are interested in getting started raising a small backyard flock of chickens.
We get together once a month at our "Let's Talk Chicken Over Chicken" meetings.
We are "eggcited" you have visited with us today, and hope you will consider joining our group!
To go out with others who love Art to events in our local area . Mobilize and support all forms of Art, including painters, photographers, sculptors, conceptual artists, performance artists, filmmakers, graphic designers, etc. to network and discuss techniques, share critiques, and offer gallery/exhibiting advice. The artistic movement in our area needs our help to grow and blossom, as a team we are that water. Become part of this effort by joining today. Thank You
The Chapel Hill - Durham Hiking Meetup is designed to provide local hiking and outdoor opportunities for the western triangle.
We are a very active (3-5 events per week on average) and social group (with some fantastic nature photographers) and plan hikes in the Chapel Hill, Durham, Hillsborough and Chatham county areas. The hikes with our experienced organizers vary in intensity from beginner to brisk and are generally anywhere from 3 to 7 miles in length (see hike posting for specific details of skill level and intensity). We also offer evening, weekday and weekend hiking opportunities. If you already walk regularly at a good pace, we have events for you! Some of the main spots we like to hike are the Eno State Park, Battle Park, Occoneechee Speedway and Mountain, Duke Forest, The American Tobacco Trail, Little River, Jordan Lake and West Point on the Eno.
NOTE: We are NOT a beginning walkers group. You need to already be able to maintain at least a 3 mile an hour pace walking on a flat surface to do our beginner hikes.
To shake things up, we regularly include other outdoor activities including tubing trips, animal preserve tours, moonlight paddling, trips to the zoo, beach and aquarium, introduction to kayaking lessons, canoeing, swimming, night skywatching sessions, walking tours of Sarah Duke Gardens and other historical sites and more!
Please note all events are considered adult only, unless the description specifically says "family friendly" and that kids are allowed to attend.
By signing up for the group you understand that you are responsible for your own health and safety on any events, as we are just volunteers with a general good sense of direction and the willingness to organize events for the meetup community.
~~~~~~ Attendance Policy ~~~~~~
Our organizers are volunteers and need an accurate count of people attending so that they can plan logistics for the events. Additionally, many of our events have people on the waiting list to attend. Therefore we enforce a "Two Strike" attendance policy. If you are a "No Show" or a "Late Drop" (dropping less than 3 hours before an event) it will count as a strike. After two strikes you are subject to removal from the group. So please only sign up for events that you know you can attend and update your RSVPs in a timely fashion if your plans change. You would be pretty upset if your event organizer just decided not to show up, so please show your organizer the same courtesy.

Welcome aboard and I look forward to seeing you all soon on the trails!

WELCOME!
Thank you for visiting this site and if you are here, it is most likely that you are looking to meet other age 55+, young and active, singe adults!
My name is Laura Kay House and I started this Meet-up in 2006. It was the first Meet-up in the Triangle for those age 55+ and one of the first Meet-ups in their organization for this unique age group, at that time, as well.
I am now the founder and owner of a full time business here in the Triangle that provides socializing opportunities to those active, single adults, age 55 "and better!" I took my education, vision and experience and began SILVER CONNECTIONS three years ago.
Numerous events are offered every month-dining, theater, museum visits, movies, seminars, member mingles, golf group, supper club, book club, coffees. new member socials, sporting events, wine tasting, dancing, music and much more! Travel is also offered as an option to members- both locally, in the U.S. and internationally! Personal service and a strong community are also top priorities! We are not a dating service (although love does happen!), but a way to bring together individuals with similar experiences and circumstances in a safe, pressure-free and fun environment.

We don't stop laughing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop laughing" - Michael Pritchard
Tired of Triangle meetup groups focusing mainly on Raleigh, Cary, and other locations? This meetup will be Durham-centric. A variety of activities is envisioned, such as gathering for coffee and discussion, attending festivals and cultural events, visiting local museums, galleries and parks, going to plays and music performances, or whatever else comes to mind. Meetings should be quite casual. Members are welcome to send ideas and suggestions for activities. Most activities are FREE or cheap!
This is a photo lessons for beginner and intermediate photographers. Take better pictures of your kids, your pets, your travels, nature, and for your business! It's so easy and fun. Bring whatever camera you have: , digital SLR, point and shoot, etc and we'll work from there. It's a casual learning environment! We are all about networking to help others. If you don't have a camera, that's fine, you can still learn! Kids welcome at most meetups.
We're a bunch of happy paddlers who like to have fun paddling on flat water (lakes, lazy rivers, tidal estuaries, the ocean), not whitewater. Join this group to find someone to paddle with and friends to go on car and kayak camping trips.
Like the Ruby programming language? We do too! Want to learn more about it? You're in good company. Come join us in our pursuit of humane programming. (We also have a mailing list: http://rubyforge.org/mailman/listinfo/raleigh-rb-members)
Ultimate Frisbee, played sandlot style, with the focus on fun, sweat, and socializing. Perfect for people new to the area or long-time residents looking to finally toss the disc.
Meet other local Canine Owners and their Dogs. If you have a puppy or adult dog and you would like to meet other canine owners while having fun training, hiking and playing with your dogs (large or small) then this is the Meetup for you! We allow our canines the opportunity to play off leash with other dogs and puppies and their owners in a safe, enclosed area. When members express an interest, we will also take the opportunity to train our canines for a portion of each Meetup. We will sometimes meet for leashed hikes in the woods and play (and training) in parks. Canine owners who wish to use this Meetup to train their dogs are most welcome as there will always be an opportunity for receiving advice on raising, nurturing, and disciplining your dog or puppy. No experience necessary beyond a love of your pet but experienced trainers and handlers are always welcome.
Our group is a way for single parents and their children to have oportunities for friendship and emotional support. Most events will be with children and some will be without children.
-Do you PPC, SEO, SEM, Tweet, Digg, and Autorespond?
-Are you on all the guru's lists? Do you know Jay Abraham, Dan Kennedy, John Reese, Rich Schefren, Joel Comm and the others?
-Do you have a swipe file? a Clickbank account?
If you know exactly what I'm talking about then this group is for you!
Let's all get together and help mastermind each other's businesses and share the latest cutting edge online marketing tactics and strategies.
At each meeting, we'll also do our regular Q&A session where we'll try to help you solve any challenges you're currently having promoting your business online. It can be about anything web related: website design, hosting, audio, video, affiliate programs, copywriting, search engine optimization, pay per click, blogging, social networking, etc... As always, we'll have a variety of experts in attendance, ready to help you brainstorm solutions. Please send me any questions you want to discuss in advance if you can. This should be a great event and you're Guaranteed to leave with some actionable information you can use to grow your business.
This group is primarily for experienced online marketers who understand direct response marketing on the Internet.
Come share your tips, tricks, failures and success stories and learn from other experienced internet marketers as well. No hype and no pitching will be allowed but having a good time and walking away from each meeting with actionable money-making ideas will be a requirement.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All of our meetings have been a huge success and the group continues to grow rapidly each month. As this group keeps growing we may need to move to a larger meeting location. So it's vitally important that you only RSVP if you plan to actually attend so we can get an accurate headcount and pick the proper location. I'll notify everyone if a location change is necessary 1 week before the meeting based on RSVP's.
Welcome Ladies to The 20s, 30s & early 40's: Gals Meet New Pals group! This is a Meetup group for women in their 20s, 30s (early 40s too) who are looking to make some new friends and have fun! We have all kinds of events -- dinners out, movie nights, spa days, sporting events, cooking clubs, game nights, theatre shows, etc. Plus, your ideas for activities are ALWAYS welcome - just email the organizer!
In addition to being very friendly, we are a VERY diverse group of women with varied interests - some single, some with significant others, some with children, and others without. We have members from all parts of the country and different parts of the world as well. We look forward to meeting you at our next event!
This group is private because of some security concerns, but we would love to have you! Just click Join and take a look at our calendar to find an event.
Explore Raleigh is more than just a Meetup group. Keep reading to get a better understanding of what we do.
Explore Raleigh was established to give people an opportunity to go out and not only meet new people but to explore so much of what Raleigh has to offer. You don't have to be new to the area to enjoy the venues and activities that this group highlights.
We think you'll find that this Meetup group is not like other groups that have a particular area of focus, as we will be engaging in a wide range of activities. We may be on a trail this week, at the IMAX next week and doing volunteer the week after that. We're liable to hit a bar or restaurant any night of the week.
Not all events are organized Meetups. You'll notice that some events are more along the lines of informative announcements. But you can still RSVP and coordinate going with another member of Explore Raleigh who has also RSVP'd the event.
You can visit ExploreRaleigh.org where you can subscribe to our blog so you'll know what's going on with the group. You can also subscribe to our Monthly Newsletter, where you'll get updates and insights into some of highlighted events scheduled for each month.
Welcome to the group!
PS: This is not a Hookup group. If you're looking to Hookup, there are plenty of websites for that, if you don't mind paying I recommend Match, if you want a free site I recommend PlentyOfFish and OkCupid and if you're really brave, you can try Craigslist. Haha, Goodluck!!
A group of fun, easy-going, friendly people who love video games (or dice/board games) as much as they like being active...whether it's biking, swimming, running, soccer, basketball, dance, yoga, kickboxing, rugby, weight-lifting...WHATEVER :) But staying active in addition to our couch potato time! We might do either activity (or both if we get into a rigorous Wii tennis match!) and just enjoy being around people with common interests.
Small Print:
1) Membership Dues:
Having a meetup group is an annual cost of $144; to maintain this we charge a yearly $2 membership fee. This will also be used to cover costs incurred by the organizer or hosts if members do not show up (see new policy below concerning "no shows") and to assist in funding meetup events.
You can pay this online, by mail, or in person. It is to be paid at your first meetup and again the following year.
2) No Show Policy:
This is intended to encourage accurate RSVPs. After 3 "no shows" (RSVPing "yes" to an event and then not showing up) the member may be removed from group. This is being done for several reasons:
- Often times event reservations are paid in advance, leaving the host to unfairly pay for no shows.
- Frequently, there are large waiting lists of people who would really like to attend the event. By not coming, an individual deprives someone else the chance to partake.
I understand things come up last minute and most of our members tend to be very busy people so it's easy to forget things! Two no shows will be allowed...but the third strike, you're out!
3) Coming Uninvited:
Additionally, if you are not on the "going" list or do not have special permission from the organizer or host to attend a meetup, please do not show up. We have a specific number of people that we plan on for each meetup. It's also not fair to those members that have been patiently waiting on the waiting list if others are able to come to the meetup who weren't even on the list. Members may be removed who show up without permission or without being on the "going" list.
Meet local strategy board game players, and make new friends! We get together often at local gaming stores and at members' private homes to play a variety of strategy games. We are happy to teach strategy games to new members. Please note that we do not play party games nor classic games such as Monopoly or Checkers. The strategy games that we play are not hard per se, but they do require analytical thinking, and some take as long as 30 minutes to learn and 2 hours to play. These games are quite popular in Europe.
You can learn about these games at http://www.boardgamegeek.com. We usually play the more higher ranking games on the list which are truly the better ones. Wargames or lengthy epic games are typically only played by private arrangement. Most of our games are played in groups of 3 to 5. Join us!
For safety and security reasons, and so that we know who we are hiking with, we require that you use your real first name and post a real picture of yourself that shows your face in order to join our group. Otherwise we will have to decline your membership. Thanks for your cooperation.
This is a women-only hiking group suitable for novice and beginning hikers as well as those with more experience. We offer events for women who just want to take a pleasant hike in the woods without the need for speed or competition. We typically hike at a pace that allows for conversation and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. We also do other types of outdoor activities such as canoeing/kayaking, camping, picnics, outdoor concerts, etc. Some of our events are co-ed and allow male guests; most are for women only. Some are kid-friendly and others are for adults only. Whether a particular event is open to male guests or children is up to the organizer of the event. If you aren't sure whether it's OK to bring a male guest or a child, feel free to ask the organizer, and please respect their decision.
Some of our events have a limit on attendance due to limited availability of parking, organizer preference or other factors. With all Lady Trailblazers events, please be considerate and update your RSVP if your plans change. If you RSVP "yes," your attendance is expected. Please don't be a no-show!
Bonjour a tous! Since the previous French Raleigh Durham meetup group suddenly changed its focus let's create a new one. Come to meet other Francophiles, talk in French or English about French culture related subjects and participate to French culture related activities. From simply curious people to enthusiasts, everybody is welcomed. We will appreciate any donation to help keeping the group website alive. Any teaching offers can be sent to the organizer who will put them in the about part of the group site. Mailing list is active. If abuse are detected (spams or unsolicited ads) we might have to shut it down so please use it wisely.
Attendance Policy of the Group
This has become our policy because we have a small amount of people taking advantage of the entire group, so I appreciate your understanding as to why this policy is necessary.
I understand that everyone has an emergency from time to time, but if you miss three meetups without changing your reservation at least three hours in advance, you will be removed from the names of two meetups that have a waiting list. You will know because you will receive an email saying that you are no longer on the list for that meetup. So, for every three meetups you miss without changing your RSVP at least three hours in advance, you will be taken off the list of two meetups with waiting lists so others have the opportunity to attend. If you have a guest attending with you and you don't attend a meetup, you will be charged for two no-shows, since two people did not show up.

Looking for Dungeons and Dragons Games to join? Looking for players for your game? Do you want to discuss our favorite game? This site is for you!
Everybody's welcome - beginners, people coming back to the game, or advanced fanatics. We welcome players of every style from all over the triangle including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, and surrounding areas.
If you'd like to learn more about D&D see our "About Dungeons and Dragons" link on our "About Us" page.
DND Ecounters is now a proud sponsor of our meetup
We are a casual book club that alternates between locations in Durham and Chapel Hill/Carrboro. We meet the last Tuesday of the month. Our meeting places thus far have been the West End Wine Bar and Broad Street Cafe. Our book choices are chosen by attendees at the meetings. There are no fees to join this book club, however, there is an optional event fee to cover the costs of hosting.
Our meeting are generally pretty laid back, members volunteer to lead discussion for the book, and sometimes we break into two groups, to try to keep the discussion manageable. Click here for more details, including the history of books we've read, books that have been suggested at meetings and the list of genres we use to choose our books. Feel free to email the organizers if you have any questions.
Come on out and meet other local Cary hiking enthusiasts who are dedicated to excursions near and far, with a focus on leaving no trace of litter on our lands! All levels of experience welcome. Dogs are welcome if friendly and on a leash (1 dog per person).
Be cognizant that organizers and event hosts may, at their discretion, exclude members who have a history of repeated "No Shows" from participating in events they are hosting. Egregious offenders will be banned from the group.
Meetup Headquarters considers members active if they visit this website once every 90 days. Meetup does not require that you participate in any posted events to be active. Members inactive over 12 months may be removed but will be allowed to rejoin if they so desire.
Please be aware that we expect you to take responsibility for your safety while we are out on the trails. This means arriving prepared, remaining aware, and participating with the other really wonderful folks who are part of the group on hike day. We understand that your "Yes RSVP" to any event means you accept this condition.
Carolina Trekkers will post regional and overnight adventures supported by an RV / class c motorhome with one slide-out. Our Coachmen Concord is by no means a "big rig" (24' overall length) and will not be too big for most campgrounds. Many excursions will be weekend getaways except the AT slackpacking hikes in GA, NC, & VA which will be 4 days max; e.g., Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (weekend plus 2 weekdays).
The RV accommodations will be used on alternate days/nights by the female hikers and then by the male hikers unless special circumstances are taken into consideration, e.g., an excursion limited only to couples. On alternate nights the hikers will camp in tents or hard shells. In case of heavy rain the tents can be setup beneath the RV awning (no longer attached to motorhome - similar to using a giant tarp) or we will stay in a lodge or cabin during a severe thunderstorm with many lightning strikes and possible hail or flooding.
So as to be prepared for the unexpected a vehicle which can accommodate 4 riders will be towed behind the RV in case anyone needs to be extracted from the hike or leave prematurely due to unforeseen circumstances, and will also be used to store equipment and supplies if not needed for an emergency. The vehicle will also be an integral part of our shuttle system. A Honda Pilot 4x4 will serve as a secondary vehicle with a capacity for 8 hikers and hiking gear which can be stored on the roof in a Yakima skybox and behind the 3rd row of seats. The Honda Pilot will prove very useful in reaching sections of the AT not accessible by RV. Also, a mattress from a sofa bed (folds nicely) and necessary bedding will be used to convert the Honda Pilot into a hard shell shelter.
At times we may have the RV drop us off at the trailheads and pick us up at the road crossings instead of setting up a base of operations at an RV campground. The Honda Pilot would serve as a support vehicle for scouting/reconnoitering. This option may require a trekker dedicated to only driving and securing the RV. The advantages of setting up a base camp at an RV campground (2nd & best option) are the full hook-up RV sites (unlimited water for showering), laundry facilities (RV does not have washer & dryer), night security so the RV can be left unattended but locked, Wi-Fi, swimming pool and club house, and some grocery items.
While I do not expect any financial help with the cost of gasoline (unless it hits $4.50 a gallon or higher), I would appreciate dividing equally amongst the hikers the cost of tent site rentals at an RV campground (some campgrounds have designated pads for tents). Everyone is responsible for their own food and beverages, though at times we can eat communally.
I will be using almost exclusively the book "Exploring the Appalachian Trail by RV, Sort of..." ( http://www.amazon.com/Exploring-Appalachian-Trail-Sort/dp/1441425799) for guidance on how to plan this trip, "DeLorme Atlas and Gazatteer" for the states of Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and numerous guidebooks and trail maps from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC): ( http://www.appalachiantrail.org/).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I visualize the trips to the Appalachian Trail hikers will not be required to drive their personally owned vehicles (POVs) unless they wish to do so. The RV will have a vehicle in tow and my Honda Pilot 4X4 will be part of the convey -- that's 3 vehicles altogether, enough to accommodate 4 - 6 hikers and all their gear, and with more than enough flexibility to react to any eventuality, e.g., some hikers may have time constraints.
The plan is for all hikers to meet at ___ Windbyrne Drive, Cary, NC 27513 (exact address will be delivered via email to all participating hikers). This is a townhouse with plenty of off-street parking in front of the home. The Windbrooke subdivision of the Silverton community in Cary, NC, where the townhouse is located, is not a gated community but still has only one way in and one way out and consists of two cul-de-sacs, so it is very safe with no thru traffic whatsoever (no need to worry about car break-ins).
All hikers that feel comfortable with this type of excursion (not your typical AT section hike) and that can devote an appropriate amount of time to the hike are welcome ( early departures are okay if you make prior arrangements; may require additional vehicles --> including your own ). This is a goal oriented trek --> in other words, to count the miles and not the days.
To meet other Raleigh-Durham single professionals thorough a variety of cool ice breakers and social gatherings. Some of these events include Lock and Key Events and SpeedDating events
How a Lock and Key Event Works
Every woman gets a padlock. Every man gets a key. Your goal is to match the right key with the right padlock. Every time you unlock you get a ticket that enters you into the drawing to win great prizes from our party sponsors. Prizes such as cold hard cash, hotel stays, dinners, tickets to popular things to do and more. After every unlock you get another lock or key so you can get back into the fray and meet more people!
Throughout your quest of 50, 100 or even more locks/keys, you are sure to meet tons of people of the opposite sex in a fun and different way. Lock and Key Events are a great alternative to the club scene and traditional socials since the fun and unique ice-breaker format ensures you meet tons of new people! Click on the link for information about the next Lock and Key party! http://www.lockandkeyevents.com/RD
I organize and run pre date or speed dating parties (another great way to meet/connect with new people) as well and these parties will be listed on our calendar of events. Check our calendar of events for information about the next pre-date or speed dating party.

I am looking forward to making this a fun group of foodies who meet several times a month. I will rely on suggestions from our members about where to set up our events. Please tell your friends/co workers/family or any other sushi or food lovers about this group.("Sushi /n./ Known to the rest of the world as 'Bait'.") - People with this philosophy need not apply.

Not into the bar scene but feel like you are too old for the "singles" and too single for the "marrieds?" This group is for those of us who would like to find others to have fun with who are in that same social situation. Whether you've been single again for two days or two decades, this group is for you. Those who are dealing with the stress of separation and want to find Christian fellowship are also welcome. Meet other local separated, divorced, and widowed single Christians of every denomination to socialize and make friends doing wholesome activities together. Those who have never married and are searching for Christian fellowship are certainly welcome to join us, as well.
A number of us are also active with the Triangle Singles Club Meetup Group (www.meetup.com/Triangle-Singles-Club/), which is a great organization for Christians who are looking for a wholesome night life! And if you are looking for other Christian Singles Meetup groups in the area, you might enjoy the Raleigh Area Christian Singles Social Meetup Group 30+ (www.meetup.com/RTP-Christian-Singles/).
Please check out our "Message Board" for Upcoming Christian Activities and our "About Us" page for Suggested Resources for those who are single again. All are welcome to our Meetup group.
This group is for college graduates in the Triangle area who would like to meet a diverse group of new friends in their age range for social and professional networking. Some of our activities have been: Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, wine tasting, beach trips, bonfires, house/dance parties, movie nights, concerts, game nights, running races, swimming at the rock quarry, baseball games, and volleyball. Future plans include: camping trips, tubing, and potlucks. All suggestions are welcomed. **This is not a singles group, more for meeting friends and networking, but if you happen to meet someone, great.**
This site was born out of a vision of uniting and empowering the raw and living food community here in NC, and beyond!

We have meetings aimed at beginners, intermediates, bluegrass and have been running a bi-monthly open mic in Raleigh for those who don't mind taking that plunge. We have a great group of people who are eager to learn and share what they know. There are various meetups through-out the RTP area and we have active members from Angier to Chapel Hill.
Come on out and jam with us!
NCTech4Good is the regional network for sharing knowledge about technologies that can advance the mission of nonprofit organizations. This sharing occurs during monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of the month, 6:30-8:30 PM, usually at United way of the Greater Triangle and the annual conference. Meeting summaries, planning, resources, and discussion forums are on the website NCCommunities.org/NCTech4Good. Other resources are found at the conference site: www.NCTech4Good.org.
NCTech4Good is supported locally by Public Information Network, Inc. (also known as RTPnet), United Way of the Greater Triangle, and the N.C. Center for Nonprofits. Welcome! We are a group of people who either have had or are considering Weight Loss Surgery (WLS). Most of us are members ObesityHelp.com, however, you do not need to be a member of OH to join this meetup. We hope to provide a place where members can come to see what activities are scheduled in North Carolina. While many events occur in the Greater Raleigh Area, we also look forward to more events in other areas of NC ... from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Beach!
This group is a way for people considering WLS to find out about and attend fun, socializing events with others that have had or are considering WLS. It is in no way officially connected ObesityHelp.
When registering, if you post on OH, it will make it easier for others to recognize you to if you would use your same name and avatar that you use on the OH NC Forum.
All events are open to anyone who is a member, unless the event specifies that it is by invitation only. General support group meetings are held on the 3rd Saturday of each month. We share experiences, recipes, photos and often do clothing swaps. We welcome your friends and family as well because they are an integral part of our support system.
I have access to and sometimes am able to provide free product samples from vendors and I can arrange for speakers or seminars periodically.
I have started some special interest groups as well to address particular topics of interest:
The Over 50 BMI Group for people who started their journey with a higher BMI and it addresses issues of interest to that group.
The Grads Group for people that had their surgery a year or more ago.
One Step at a Time is a group that looks a Behavior Modification issues to identify behaviors that can lead to problems and make positive changes. This group used to be known as the 'Beck' group.
While these groups have topics that are specialized, anyone is welcome to attend any of the events we host, just know that the discussions and focus of the meetings for these groups is directed to a more specific area of interest.
As a group, we are also looking into doing activities such as charitable walks that allow us to be and get 'active' together. Other activities we may undertake include bowling, scrapbooking, shop til you drop excursions and possibly a 'cooking' group that will function like a gourmet cooking group, but will focus on WLS friendly recipes.
We look forward to getting to know you better.

Welcome fellow Agnostics, Atheists, Humanists and other Freethinkers! This group will be a home for anyone in the Triangle area who doesn't practice a particular religion and might be looking for a friendly secular forum for discussion.
We welcome Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist and open-minded Deist brothers and sisters who agree that reason, compassion and free will are more important than obedience to religious institutions or religious dogma as a foundation for a moral and ethical society.
While freethinkers may disagree on some finer points of our "atheology," I believe our interests and goals are very much the same, and our differences will offer opportunities for good discussions. With luck, we'll make some new friends, have some fun, learn something, do some good and maybe even change some minds along the way!
"My country is the world, all mankind are my brethren, and my religion is to do good." --Thomas Paine
PLEASE NOTE: Neither this Meetup group nor any of its members is associated with trianglefreethinkers.org.

If you could choose to enjoy better health, would you be interested? Do increased energy, greater enthusiasm, and an enhanced sense of well-being appeal to you? How about a greater sense of joy?
The good news is, these things are possible for you. Within yourself, you have the power you need to create wellness in your life. That power is your power of choice.
According to the World Health Organization, "Health is more than the absence of disease. Health is a state of optimal well-being." Optimal well-being is a concept of health that goes beyond the curing of illness to one of achieving wellness. Achieving wellness requires balancing the various aspects of the whole person. These aspects are physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. This broader, (w)holistic approach to health involves the integration of all of these aspects and is an ongoing process.
Many of us have been brought up to believe that our health depends solely on the quality of the healthcare we receive. The truth is, your health is your responsibility. You are the only person who can make the lifestyle decisions that contribute to your well-being. You are the one who must take the steps to preserve your health and promote your wellness. You have the power to create wellness for yourself.
Your power lies in the choices you make every day on your own behalf. If you react out of habit or fixed attitudes, you may not be using your choices wisely to create wellness in your life. To create wellness you must expand your focus beyond mere physical health, and:
* Strive to balance and integrate your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects * Establish respectful, cooperative relationships with your family, friends, community, and the environment * Gather information and make informed wellness-oriented choices * Actively participate in your health decisions and healing process.
We hope that you can contribute to this meetup by offering your time, space, knowledge and wisdom.
Started in 2008, this is Triangle's largest group dedicated to bringing Geeks together for a wide variety of fun and geeky activities. Game nights, monthly movies, brewery tours, bowling, dinner and drinks, holiday parties, geeky educational workshops, night sky watches, TV and movie viewing parties, museum trips, festivals and tours are just some of the things we have done. Check out the group calendar to see what we having coming up.
According to Wikipedia:
"The word geek is a slang term, noting individuals as 'a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, gaming, etc.' "
At the Triangle Geeks, we cast our net more broadly and include geeks of any persuasion. Photography geeks, cooking geeks, gaming geeks, science geeks, IT geeks, sci-fi geeks, etc. Whatever your obsession is, we want you to share it with the rest of us.
Our Attendance Policy:
Since many of our events fill up and have waiting lists, we have a "Two Strike" attendance policy. If you are a "No Show" or a "Late Drop" (dropping less than 6 hours before the event) it will count as a strike. After two strikes you are subject to removal. So please only sign up events that you know you can attend and update your RSVPs in a timely fashion.
Profile Picture Policy
We do require all members to post an actual, recognizable picture of themselves in their profiles, since many events are hosted in private homes and it makes it significantly easier for organizers to locate people in large venues and learn names.
Have an idea for some a fun activity? Let one of our organizers know so that we can work to make your idea into an event!
Gourmet coffee, a good page turning book, and great girl friends... does life get any better than that?!?! Make sure your schedule is clear every 3rd Tuesday or 3rd Thursday evening of the month to discuss our latest book. Don't forget to nominate a book for the next vote! If you have great book to add to the next poll, be sure to send me an email, post it on the message board or let Eileen, Cheryl or mysef know at the next event!
On the 1st Tuesday of the month, we will meet at different restaurants, cafe's, bakeries and other fun places in the Raleigh area just for a girls night out to indulge in ourselves over a nice meal while chatting it up with fellow memebers. What a great way to make new friends!

Enjoy outdoor activities with other outdoor enthusiasts. If you're looking for a group to hike, walk, bike (road, greenway, trails, or single track), kayak, ski, sail, fish, boat, or some other outdoor activity during the week join us. Most activities are scheduled between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on weekdays. But the group offers outdoor activities every day of the week. The group is not focused on any particular activity. We do a lot of different activities on a relaxed level. Members range in age from their 20's to 70's with the majority of members being in their 40's, 50's, and 60's. Reference the group "Pages" for additional group information and the "Calendar" for past and upcoming activities.
Welcome outdoors-y exercise lovers, cycling fanatics and runners!
We are a fun group of people from Durham and Chapel Hill who like to exercise together. Mainly we run and do yoga, but we also lift weights, swim, dance, bike, kayak, camp, hike, and much more! We are known to participate in 5K and 10K races, half marathons, marathons, triathlons.
The primary focus of this group is attending cultural events and going out for brunch, lunch, and dinner with other 50+ year old seniors, singles, and couples. From gourmet to pizza, some of our favorites are Italian, Mexican, Mediterranean, and steak, as well as health conscious restaurants.
We also enjoy theatre, classical music concerts, museum events, and movies. Occasionally, we cook and entertain in our homes (with limited numbers). Hiking, boating, and trips to various beaches, seashores, and distant locations with other adventurers create memories that define our lives.
Sharing the knowledge I gained in public relations, marketing, and event planning for various organizations, as well as the organizer for NC Symphony Suppers, Raleigh Ski and Outing Club (RSOC) events, "10s and Friends" co-op Single Suppers (over 200 members in two years), and as an adult student at NC State for over 10 years, of the many ways to entertain and enjoy this rich area were my motivation for starting this group. Now, I would like to travel and enjoy concerts, plays, cooking, dining out, gardening, walking, hiking, and adventures with others who like to do the same.
We are active 50+ seniors--both singles and couples.
This meetup is an offspring of The Raleigh-Durham Tennis Meetup.
It is to help players in the Triangle area find hitting partners
for doubles, singles and practice. If you join, you are giving
members permission to contact you for purposes of playing tennis.
Please respond to inquiries and be a respectful and active member
of this group. You must be 18 or older to join.
There are four ways to locate hitting partners:
1. Click on any of the 6 standing events listed on the home page
and contact players there. Please also RSVP to any of those events
so players can easily contact you.
2. Contact players through the
Members
section. Players who have recently visited the website are likely
the best persons to contact first.
3. Use the
Roster
of Active Members (listed under Latest Activity) to find
members at your level who are still actively using this
website.
4. Attend events with
The Raleigh-Durham Tennis
Meetup (www.rdutennis.com) and build relationships there.
From a member's profile, use the "Send email" link to contact
players (if available). If not available, use the "Post a Greeting"
section of their profile.

Freethinkers, Agnostics, Atheists & Secularists of the Triangle (FAAST) is a social group made up of the non-religious residents of the Triangle region of North Carolina.
The purpose is to help non-religious people create a part of their social lives that is free of religious pressure and proselytization, and a place where we can privately discuss aspects of our non-religious lives.
Some of the meetups will likely have an irreligious purpose or subject, but many--if not most--will merely be regular social events, where religion just won't come up. We do fun stuff like movies, dinners, trivia nights, potlucks, game nights, etc.
In the spirit of the purpose of Meetup (i.e. to meet people face to face and foster social interaction), we encourage members to use their real first names and real photos of themselves here. This is a private group, and only other group members can see your posts and RSVPs. Using your real name and photo will help folks get to know you more quickly and easily. Part of the reason this group was created was for nonbelievers to have a safe, private way to socialize and interact, and we hope to foster an environment in which members do not feel the need for anonymity. So we request (but do not require) that you use your real name and photo as a FAAST member.
We also have a lively message board -- please take a look and jump into the conversations!

All my friends are now married and home all night. So I decided to make a group to meet new single people that are up for hanging out and having fun. If you are single and love to go out this group is for you! This group is for people that are single. No matter is you are newly single or have always been single; you are welcome to join.
This group is for everyone who has an interest in Earth-Based Spirituality & Religions. The members are diverse in beliefs and backgrounds. Our motto is "everyone has something to learn and something to teach". We come together in a sense of community to discuss our paths and share our knowledge.
Anyone is welcome, regardless of what county you live in. This meetup group is about enjoying different types of wine in a social setting. This may be at local resturants, members residences, local events, etc. Time will tell when the group grows. Wine to us is meant to relax and unwind after a day in the rat race. The goal of this group will be to meet new people, both locals and transplants, and make them feel at home, while enjoying the finer fruits of life. Seriously, if you are looking for friendships, activities of all sorts, and like to get out and do something, this group may be for you.
Hello dog owners! Dogtopia of Raleigh is forming a free, public meetup group for dogs of all sizes. We are starting this meet up group to give back to the Raleigh community and are so excited to offer you the use of our new facility.
We have three large temperature control play rooms plus a large outside area. Inside is specialized flooring for the pups pads and reinforced paneling on the drywall.
At Dogtopia, owners of small or large dogs can get together and have play dates in an open daycare environment. It's also a time to share advice and build new friendships. Separate meetups will be held for small and large dogs.
We are thrilled to offer one meetup for small dogs (under 30 pounds) and one for large dogs (over 30 pounds). We do ask that all dogs are fully vaccinated and any dog over 7 months be spayed/neutered.
Please feel free to call us (521-8083) or come by for a tour. You can visit our website at www.dogdaycare.com/nraleigh for more information. We are located at 4708 Hargrove Road in Raleigh. It's just off of Capital Blvd and Millbrook.
Hope to see you soon!
Tami and Janet

Once upon a morning bright and cheery, while I pondered dark and dreary
Over my latest curious volume that is surely going to soar,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a rapping,
As my fingers started tapping, tapping creating words galore..
`'Tis finally my muse,' I muttered, `tapping out words galore-
Only this, and nothing more.'

Come meet other local writers and let creativity bloom! Looking to make this group writer friendly, helpful and encouraging to new and experienced writers. Critique for growth will be encouraged- but it should be appropriate and given in a helpful manner!
We have several different meetings each month and hopefully we will soon have more. Most of the meetings follow a similar format - readers present their work and other members give feedback. We are all trying to be better writers so we try to keep feedback helpful without attacking members.
Some of the meeting types we hold now are:
General works (both an evening and a daytime group)
Science Fiction and Fantasy, and Horror
Poetry
and more to come...
Some of the meetings require you to be at a previous meeting in order to sign up to read, but most of them don't. Writer's can submit their work online ahead of time using the Files section - this has become a great tool for the group, allowing many writers to get a more in-depth critique of their work. Some readers may choose not to submit their work ahead of time and will just read out loud at a meeting and get feedback on what they've read. Either format is fine. So, welcome, enjoy, and we hope to see you on the New York Times Best-Seller List soon! Eric Maier Organizer, DWG

This group is pretty much an anything goes social club for the Carrboro/Chapel Hill area. As far as activities go, the ideas that drive this group will come from YOU! Concerts, festivals, happy hours, volunteering, exhibits, restaurants, comedy clubs, sporting events, potlucks, and anything & everything else in between, so long as it is legal in town/county/state/country. :-)
Both moms and dads who are swimming against the mainstream parenting culture are welcome. Are you attachment parents? Interested in homeschooling or unschooling? Tired of all of the marketing to parents and children? Wanting to say goodbye to TV and plastic toys?
Alternative Parenting of Durham is a community of parents who wish to approach parenting mindfully, respectfully questioning what others often take for granted. We believe in "education for life" and enjoy reading and learning about educational philosophy, anthropology, and human development. We believe that being a parent is the most important role we have in life, and we are passionate about exploring the many ways in which we can help guide our children through their own journeys of self-discovery and discovery of the world at large.
View a sample of events on our group calendar
Ultimately, the organization and scope of Alternative Parenting of Durham depends on the members and our needs and vision for the group. As such, we welcome each member's input, and understand that the group will reflect our evolving interests as we grow and change as parents.
To all those who swim against the parenting current and are looking for friends and support, welcome!

Excited about the Triangle's only Independent Scuba group?
Our goal is to serve as a vehicle for Triangle divers to get together for the purpose of planning trips both to local dive destinations and for longer distance tropical trips. We also hope to provide a venue where those of us of "like mind" can gather and PARTY. In some cases we actually do things together other than dive...and a few of us would like to see the group plan ski trips, rafting trips, and trips of other sorts when we aren't diving. After all..this is the triangle and we sure can't go diving every weekend(There simply are not that many nice wrecks!).
Meet other fun-loving, active 30/40-something year olds in the Chapel Hill/Durham area. Our mission is to enhance the spiritual, mystical, and metaphysical awareness and consciousness of our community by sponsoring programs that facilitate personal growth and development and a holistic approach to health and living.
Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship has been serving the Triangle spiritual community since 1973.

Someone recently said, poetry is not meant to be read quietly, but to be listened to. So just like in the Dead Poets Society movie, I would like to meet with people who also love poetry, love to read it aloud, love to perform it, love to talk about it and love to write it. - Let's come together sharing poems and why they touch us the way they do.

Benvenuti! Welcome!
Non dovete parlare italiano per unirvi al nostro gruppo, ma se sapete parlare la lingua, perfetto! You don't have to speak Italian to join our group but if you do great!
Our purpose is to enjoy various aspects of Italian culture such as music, film, food, discussion, cooking and going to different Italian restaurants in the area. We have meetings several times a month. At least once a month we will meet at a different Italian restaurant or pizzeria.
While this is not exclusively an Italian-speaking group there are many members who do speak the language fluently and like to practice the language when they can. However if you are a novice (like me) or don't speak any Italian at all you are still welcome to join us.
Please feel free to suggest activities, places, dates, and times. We are always looking for new things to do.
Non vediamo l'ora di conoscervi! We look forward to meeting you!
